These are pop-out java menu applets available in numerous themes and suitable for a side bar navigation layout with the menu down the side of your page.

The menus have pop-up submenus, which can pop up over anything on your page - e.g. frame edges, HTML content, flash movies, etc - but are easily removed again afterwards.
